From an early age I had a passion for baking. I was baking on my own from the age of nine or ten. Back then I thought that the only way to make icing was by mixing icing sugar with water and a splash of colouring, and any left over icing was poured on the flowers in the garden to attract the bees. Then as a teenager I discovered buttercream.I would nag my Dad to let me bake on a regular basis. However much to my Dad's chagrin but the time I had baked and iced the cake and of course cleaned out the bowls with a spoon I had lost interest in the cake. Needless to say my poor Dad who really didn't have a sweet tooth always had to eat all the cake. Whilst I loved baking I had never really given much thought to the decorating side of it and so my cakes while tasting delicious were always very simple in design. In my next blog I will tell you about my first decorated cake which resulted in me getting hooked on cake decorating.
