Way back in 2013 it was my son's 21st birthday and of course, I wanted him to have a really special cake for the occasion.
At the time I was working as a Business Developer for Avon and one of the girls who worked under me was a cake decorator, so I thought I would give her a call and get a good price for a cake. When I asked her how much she would charge me for a 21st birthday cake she said that I was looking at between 80 and 120 euros. My immediate thought was "Are you crazy? I'm not paying that much money for a cake". Needless to say, I decided that I would do it myself.
At this point in time, I had no idea what sugarpaste was let alone how to use it. All I knew was that cake decorators used Sugarpaste to cover cakes. So I bought what I needed and set about making my son's cake. Now as you can see it was by no means perfect but I have to say I was rather proud of myself when I was done. Making this cake sparked a desire to o more cakes and learn more about cake decorating, I was hooked!
I like to think that over the years my decorating skills have greatly improved. I love a challenge and thrive on making cakes using techniques I have never used before.
